Questioner: Muhammad Anas Aalam Razvi of Paakwara Muradabad, India

Answer:

The function of this device is to burn mosquitoes and Islamic law prohibits burning living things.

The noble hadith states:
Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah reported from his father: We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on his journey. He left to relieve himself. We saw a bird with two cubs. We grabbed the two cubs and the bird began to flap its wing as such until the Prophet ﷺ came. He said, ‘Who has pained her because of her children? Give her back the cubs.’ And then he saw an anthill that we had burned and said, ‘Who burned this?’ We said, ‘We have burned it.’ He said, ‘Tormenting with fire is not suitable for anyone except by the Creator of fire.’
[Sunan Abu Dawud: 2/714,

From this blessed hadith, it has become clear that the authority to burn a living being is only permitted to Allah, not another.

Allamah Ibn Hajar Asqalani (may Allah have mercy on him) says in Sharh Bukhari:
According to our Islamic law, it is not allowed to burn a living being, but with indemnification [qisas] it is allowed with conditions.
[Fath al-Bari Sharh Sahih Bukhari: 6/358]

It says in Durr al-Mukhtar:
In al-Mubtagha it says, ‘It is disapproving [makruh] to burn locusts, worms and scorpions, and if it is in the wood, then there is nothing wrong with burning it.’

Allamah Shami has assessed that this disapproval as sinfully disapproving [makruh tahrima]. He says under ‘It is disapproving to burn locusts:’
i.e., all is sinfully disapproving [tahrima]

In Muhit Burhani it says:
It says in Fatwa Ahl Samarqand: ‘It is sinfully disapproving [makruh] to burn locusts and scorpions. It has come in the hadith: “Torment with fire shall not be given except by the Creator of fire.’”

It is clear from the above hadith and jurisprudential expressions that it is not permissible to burn a living being because torment by burning is only by Allah.

The fact is that mosquitoes are deadly animals and their bites can cause many deadly diseases in the human body, such as dengue, malaria and typhus, and these diseases make it difficult for humans to survive. But there are many other ways to repel and kill mosquitoes, but this method should not be used in any way.

This is what I have and the knowledge is with Allah Almighty.
